ABOUT ABOUT

The first survivor-founded Holocaust museum in the U.S., Holocaust Museum LA was founded in 1961 by a group of survivors who envisioned a place to honor their loved ones, educate future generations, and inspire a more dignified world. They each had a photograph, document, or personal item which they collected; this became the foundation of the vast archival collection that the Museum holds today. Among that original group of Holocaust survivor founders were two women - Esther  Przeworski Pratt and Masha Loen. Each a trailblazer in their own right, these two women were dedicated to educating the public about the Holocaust, keeping this history alive at a time when few were willing to discuss it.

In honor of Women’s History Month, join our Vice President of Education & Exhibits, Jordanna Gessler, and our Collection Manager, Christie Jovanovic, as they explore the histories of each of these unique women, taking a closer look at some of the artifacts that bring to life their amazing personal stories of strength and resilience.
