ABOUT ABOUT

Sunday, December 12, 2 p.m.

Holocaust Museum LA presents the special exhibition, Ruth Gruber: Photojournalist, celebrating the remarkable life and heroic tenacity of Ruth Gruber, a twentieth–century pioneer and trailblazing photojournalist. Known primarily as an author and journalist, Gruber’s photography was a major component of her earliest reportage; her groundbreaking work spans over five decades and four continents. Her work documenting the Exodus 1947 was printed in thousands of newspapers and magazines, including LIFE, and radically transformed attitudes toward the plight of Jewish refugees after the Holocaust. Following the war, Gruber shifted her work to the lives of refugees and issues of rescue, sanctuary, and liberation, devoting her life to humanitarian causes. Drawn from Gruber's private archive, this exhibition includes never-before-seen color photographs and vintage prints alongside contemporary prints made from her original negatives.

The Exhibition Ruth Gruber: Photojournalist was made possible by friends of Ruth Gruber, Patti Kenner, and supported, in part, by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Department of Arts and Culture.
